Thank you for your interest in Hawthorne Family Playschool. If you are interested in enrolling for the 2010-2011 school year, please visit us at our Open House!

We are a mixed-age play-based cooperative preschool fostering self awareness, relationships with others, and connections to the natural world. HFP enrolls students ages 3-5. Our school day is from 9 a.m. – noon.

• Three-year-olds attend two days a week
• Four-year-olds attend three days a week (3rd day on Friday)

You can enroll in a M/W class or a T/Th class. Our class size is 14 students (with three adults present). Children must be age 3 by September 1. We maintain a year-round waiting list.

HFP enrolls students ages 3-5. Our school day is from 9 a.m. – noon.

About Our Selection Process

We review applications and contact people with enrollment or waitlist offers sometime in early March. We don't conduct a strict lottery, as there are many factors we consider such as age, gender and diversity balance of our students as well as what parents bring to the program.

As a unique, parent-driven co-op school, HFP relies heavily on our families to eagerly and fully participate in our community. When we review applications, we consider people's interests, talents and skills as well as their enthusiasm for our program. Families don't always share enough about themselves on the application, yet this can be a great way to get closer consideration. If you have a particular interest or skill that you're willing to share, then please tell us about it.

Tuition:

HFP is proud to offer a sliding fee scale. We also fundraise to maintain a scholarship fund for families in need.

While HFP operating costs for the 2-day program is $180 and for the 3-day program is $270, we are very proud to offer the following sliding fee scale based on your annual household income. Our goal with the sliding scale is to balance:

  • Cost of an outstanding preschool education
  • Affordability for families
  • Equity for teachers (fair compensation)

In addition, tuition alone does not cover the ethical compensation for our teacher and operating costs of our school. Our goal to keep tuition affordable means that we must fundraise as an additional source of income. Each family works hard to achieve our annual fundraising goals that supports the operating costs of our school, a tuition assistance fund, and a more equitable wage for our gifted teacher.
